Cane & Canoe at Montage Kapalua Bay will showcase a beautiful dinner paired with selected pours from Plumpjack Estates Winery. Known for high-quality wines that honor the land, Plumpjack Estates Winery was founded in 1995 by Gavin Newsom and Gordon Getty when they stumbled upon a magical piece of land in the heart of Oakville in the Napa Valley.
The evening begins with a three-part appetizer with Cade Sauvignon Blanc followed by a pour of Plumpjack Chardonnay (2018) paired with seared scallops, sea urchin risotto, peas, and morels. The main courses include Plumpjack Syrah (2018) and Cade Cabernet Sauvignon. These premium selections will enhance every bite of the Maui Nui venison served with potato-herb crumb and butternut squash dumplings and a wagyu beef brisket over root vegetables, smoked bone marrow crouton, and périgord truffle. Before the night ends, enjoy a chocolate tart with Kula strawberries and mint paired with Plumpjack Cabernet Sauvignon under the stars.
Joining the event is Plumpjack’s winemaker, Aaron Miller. As you experience each course, Miller will mingle and share the history and stories of the unique soils, terrain, and microclimates of the estate’s 42 acres. Under Miller, PlumpJack has been honored with several accolades over the last ten years, including three 100-point Cabernet Sauvignons and two Syrahs in the Top 100 Wines of the World.
As Head Winemaker for PlumpJack Winery, Aaron Miller brings a diverse experience and an extensive education to the position. A California native, Aaron had dreams of becoming a doctor before he found his calling in the wine industry. Aaron discovered wine while earning his Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology, Physiology, and Behavior at UC Davis. This burgeoning curiosity inspired Aaron to explore the industry and to find a harvest internship in the Napa Valley immediately following his graduation from UC Davis. This led to a second internship in San Luis Obispo before his desire to dive deeper into wine drove Aaron to return to UC Davis to earn a Master of Science in Viticulture and Enology. With degree in hand and an article published in the American Journal of Enology and Viticulture fresh off the press, Aaron traveled abroad to gain cellar experience in Italy and New Zealand before returning to California and planting roots in Napa. Here, Aaron first held the Enologist position at Groth Vineyards and Winery where he fell in love with the Oakville winegrowing region. Aaron then moved to Lewis Cellars where he held the position of Assistant Winemaker before being promoted to Associate Winemaker. In 2012, Aaron returned to Oakville to lead the team at PlumpJack Winery where Aaron is dedicated to crafting Oakville Cabernet Sauvignon that showcases the terroir of the estate’s 42 acres.
